Why Garvan?
As home to one of the largest breast cancer research groups in Australia, Garvan’s scientists conduct cutting-edge research and are developing new treatments in the fight against breast cancer.
The Revolutionary Dr Samantha Oakes
Intent on finding better ways to treat the most aggressive forms of cancer, the inspirational Dr Samantha Oakes is the group leader of the Cell Survival Laboratory in Garvan’s Cancer Program. Dr Oakes has recently discovered that by turning off the ‘switch’ that keeps cancer cells alive in the body, she can also stop surviving cells spreading through the body.
Dr Oakes’ fascinating research projects at Garvan ultimately improve the survival of women and men suffering from cancer.
Cue is a proud supporter of Dr Samantha Oakes, the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and their ground-breaking work, which successfully impacts treatment of breast cancer.
